If you want to pursue the field of professional jewelry design, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the language of the industry. To get started, here are 3 common terms you might come across in your professional ventures:
1. Findings- clasps, fasteners, jump rings, ear wires, crimp beads, etc. These are the pieces used to complete a functional, finished piece.
2. Hanks- These are strands of beads pre-strung onto measured threads. This is a term used frequently in the purchasing process, used at bead stores as a description of bead size and amount fitting per hank.
3. Semi-precious stones- Natural stones, often used to create costume jewelry.
